Bible Study
The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance. Reading and understanding it better can strengthen your faith. The scriptures contain historical accuracy, teachings, and principles that can guide your life and help you grow in your relationship with Jesus. The Lord through the Bible tells us about studying the Bible in the Book of Joshua 1:8, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Think of the Bible as your owner’s manual on how to run your life. You will be amazed at the instruction that you can receive and the positive direction that your life will change.
You must learn to research what people and others say is “true”. You need to start to find out if the things you hear are true. Start communication with God and let Him know your questions about His Word. Paul states in 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT) about studying the Word of God, “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” How can we know if something is true or not if we don’t do the background checking ourselves? Paul shows us in Acts 17:11 how we should act when receiving instruction, “And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.” Once you learn this, it will spill over to other areas of your life. This is when it gets fun….
Read Daily
We need to read a bit of the Bible scripture every day. Even a few passages or a chapter can make a big difference. Consider using a Bible reading plan to help you stay on track. Reflect on what you read and think about how it applies to your life. This daily practice will help you stay connected to God’s word and draw strength and inspiration from it. Paul tells us in Romans 15:4, “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” This helps us to mend issues that come up during the week, this is also how the Lord speaks to us as well. Do you think when you read a devotion or a pastor drops a message that hits home with you it was by chance? The Lord knows what we need before we ask for it. God will never disappoint one of his children, He makes sure we have what we need.
Join a Small Group
This is absolutely one of the best ways to get to know the Lord and make other friends with the same values. Small groups at church are great for building close relationships. The Small groups take a topic and will go in-depth with that topic that will help you grow in your relationship with the Lord. Small groups are essentially a mini worship service with Bible study, prayer, and personal sharing. These groups create a safe space where you can tell others about our trials. We can receive and share guidance and grow together in faith. They also provide opportunities for accountability and mutual support. Dr. Luke says in Acts 2:42 (NLT), “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.”
